The LASIK technique offers people who are short-sighted, astigmatic or have moderate degrees of long-sightedness the opportunity to reduce their dependence on corrective eyewear. Unlike earlier procedures there is very little or no post-operative pain or discomfort, there are no sutures and visual recovery time is generally fast.

The "Excimer Laser", as it's known, uses a cool and invisible ultraviolet beam to gently break the molecular bonds between cells so that a controlled amount of tissue can be literally vaporised away one microscopic layer at a time to precisely re-shape the cornea.

Queensland Laser Vision uses a Nidek EC-5000 CXII Excimer Laser System. The EC-5000 CXII is manufactured by Nidek, Japan. The NIDEK laser is FDA and CE approved.

It is more advanced than previous models, allowing smooth ablation with new scanning technology, completely customised corrections and wavefront treatment.




The Excimer laser is used in three different surgical procedures. In all instances, anaesthetic eye drops are instilled prior to surgery, ensuring a painless procedure. All are outpatient treatments and a relative or a friend can take you home soon after the surgery. Which procedure you require depends on a number of factors particularly the strength of your current corrective lens prescription.
