ASSESSMENT PROCESS
Our initial assessment involves an in-depth consultation to
determine if laser eye surgery is right for you. Our optometrists perform this
examination.
We not only measure essential parameters of your eyes, we
discuss your lifestyle, your needs for work, leisure and day to day activities.
For your assessment:
·
Allow 1 hour of your time
·
Wear your spectacles
·
Leave your soft contact lenses out for at least
2-3 days prior
·
Leave RGP/hard contact lenses out for at least
1-2 weeks prior
·
Bring sunglasses: your
eyes will be sensitive to the light and glare
·
DO NOT DRIVE after the assessment as your pupils will be dilated
During the assessment we use eyedrops which will dilate
your pupils. This effect can last up to 24 hours. Reading vision will be blurry
for 3-4 hours. Dilated pupils make you very glare sensitive and you will need to
wear sunglasses outside. Many people are unable to drive because
of this discomfort. The purpose for using this kind of eyedrop is to determine
your exact prescription - the basis for successful outcomes.
It is essential to remove contact lenses for the specified
period prior to your assessment. Contact lenses can adversely affect the
measurements we take. We need to accurately measure the shape and thickness of
your eye. Contact lens wear can induce corneal swelling and surface distortion.
This can result in false and misleading results.
The shape and thickness of your corneas, the health of your
eyes and the amount of your prescription then determine which procedure you are
suitable for:
·
LASIK
·
PRK
Almost 40% of interested people assessed are unsuitable for
Laser Corrective Surgery. If you are not
a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery, the optometrist will discuss other
procedures and / or options, such as: ICL (implantable contact lens), Lens
Exchange or Refractive Lensectomy. These alternate procedures are performed by
our surgeons at other day surgeries.
We look forward to sharing the
vision with you
